Bomb hoax in Bahrain-bound flight in Mumbai
Mumbai: A Bahrain-bound Jet Airways plane from Mumbai was delayed by two hours following an anonymous threat call on Sunday about the presence of a bomb in the aircraft, which later turned out to be a hoax. Jet Airways flight (9W 592) with 154 passengers and crew was scheduled to take-off for its destination at around 7.20 PM when the airline’s call centre received a call that bomb was planted in the aircraft, a Jet spokesperson said. Immediately, the passengers were deboarded and the aircraft was taken to an isolated bay and thoroughly checked. (PTI)
Himachal ex-chief justice dies in Kochi
SHIMLA: Former chief justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court P.C. Balakrishna Menon has passed away in Kochi, an official statement said here Sunday. He was 82.Governor Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal have expressed grief.Justice Menon, who died of heart failure Saturday, served as the chief justice of the high court from 1989 to 1991. BMC promises to repair 164 pothole locations
MUMBAI: Having failed to provide a smooth incoming ride to the elephant-headed god at the beginning of Ganesh festival, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now promised to repair 164 pock-marked locations in the next four days.Earlier, the civic body had said it would fil up all the potholes on Mumbai roads before September 1, but that was not to be.”Currently, there are 164 pothole locations….We are trying to fix them up in three-four days,” said Chief engineer (roads), Satish Badve.Fifty-three of these patches are in the island city, 85 in the western suburbs and 26 in the eastern suburbs.”Earlier the number was 308. We brought it down to 164 in two-three days,” Badve said. Since the onset of the monsoon, the civic administration has been facing flak over pathetic condition of roads.(IANS)
Aiyar against hanging Rajiv killers
KUMBAKONAM (TN): Strongly arguing for abolition of death sentence by India, Congress Rajya Sabha member Mani Shankar Aiyar said the three death row convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi killing should not be hanged but held in prison for their entire life.Addressing a party meeting here on Saturday, Aiyar said 139 countries had done away with capital punishment and last year 67 convicts were hanged in 22 countries but none in India.Describing the assassination of the former prime minister as a ‘heinous crime and grave sin’, he said instead of being hanged, the three — Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan — should be made to spend rest of their life in prison.(PTI)
