Guwahati: To boost rubber plantation in the state in a big way, Assam government today announced to observe Rubber Day on September 22 when one lakh rubber saplings will be planted to mark the occasion.
State Soil Conservation minister Dr A K Dey informed today that one lakh rubber saplings, covering 200 hectares of land, will be planted in select districts of the state on September 22.
The selected districts are Kamrup (metro and rural), Goalpara, Dhubri, Morigaon, Nagaon and Golaghat.
” Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will ceremoniously start the programme at Guwahati,” Dr Dey said.
He said the Rubber Board, along with officials of Panchayati Raj institutions, civic bodies, district administrations and self-help groups, will take part in the plantation drive.
The poly-bagged rubber budded stumps will be provided free-of-cost to the beneficiaries through the Assam Plantation Corps Development Corporation Ltd, the minister said adding that subsidies and marketing facilities will be provided by the Rubber Board for the next few years.
Dr Dey added that a rubber authority / mission will also be soon set up in the state to encourage rubber plantation. (UNI)
