TURA: The Garo Hills Conservation Award 2011 was presented to the Baghmara Range Forest Office (RFO) of Balpakram National Park (BNP) Division and the Garo Students’ Union – Ruga Unit for their commitment and contribution towards curbing wildlife hunting and combating the issue of wildlife pet keeping in South Garo Hills.
Both institutions were honored at a function held at Tourist Lodge, Baghmara on Tuesday the Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills district Dr. BDR Tiwari IAS,honoured both the institutions and graced the function as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. BDR Tiwari IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Garo Hills emphasised that while nature provides humans with their basic needs in terms of air or water, it can’t fulfil our greed. “Humans are a part of a larger eco-system and therefore whatever we do against our nature, we will have to pay for it” said the DC.
It amy be noted that the Samrakshan Trust institutionalized “Garo Hills Conservation Award” in 2010 during its tenth year foundation day celebration. The award was instituted to appreciate and encourage wildlife enthusiasts from the region by acknowledging their contribution towards wildlife conservation.
