SHILLONG: Opposition NCP has slammed the State Government for not coming forward to help sub-inspector Sengsrang Ch Marak, who received serious injuries during an encounter with the GNLA militants last month.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, the leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Conrad K Sangma “The Government is yet to provide any financial assistance to the injured cop who is currently undergoing treatment.”
“So far he has received only Rs 5,000 from DIG (Western Range) GHP Raju,” Sangma said adding that Raju had given the amount from his pocket.
“It is really surprising to see that the Government has not initiated any step to help the police personnel who had risked their lives,” he said adding that the government should provide adequate security and protection to the police personnel and his family.
Referring to prevailing mess in education sector, the Opposition leader criticized the State Education Minister RC Laloo for his remarks that the arrears both teaching and non-teaching staff of the colleges would be released after the Assembly session.
According to Sangma, the State Government does not need to wait for the Assembly session and the arrears could be released immediately “since the Government has the majority the Bill would be automatically passed in the upcoming session.”
It may be mentioned that both teaching and non-teaching staff of all the State colleges had boycotted the Teachers’ Day celebration in protest against the delay in releasing the arrears.
“If the Government has the funds they should give the arrears immediately,” Sangma added.
Referring to recent flood in Garo Hills, Sangma said the State Government relief for flood-affected people was Tura-centric and “it has not reached the rural people, who are the worst sufferers”.
