SHILLONG: Mynken Christian Secondary School (MCSS) and OM Roy Memorial School (OMRMSS) will represent the State in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup to be held in New Delhi later this year.

MCSC Umroi earned the berth to represent the State in the under-17 category when they beat Amwi Jarian Secondary School (AJSS), Jaintia Hills by a solitary goal in the final of the State level Subroto Mukherjee Cup at Kurkalang Ground, Bhoi Rymbhong on Tuesday. Whereas, OMRMSS, Mawlai Kynton Massar thrashed MCSS 4-0 in the final of the under-14 category to seal their claim to represent Meghalaya.

In the final of the under-17 category, AJSS was pushed in the back foot after MCSS went ahead in the very first minute through a goal from Rocky Dorphang.

The team continued to dominate the proceedings of the match in the initial stages as their opponents were taken aback by the early goal.

However, the Jaintia Hills team (AJSS) soon regrouped itself and started to play an attacking game sharing maximum ball possession in the later stages of the first half.

AJSS players managed to penetrate the MCSS defence on several occasions but failed to create any real chances to get the all important equaliser.

The first half finally ended with MCSS leading 1-0.

AJSS came back strong in the second half and exhibited their aggressive intent through accurate passing and magnificent ball control. However, the big let down for the school from Jaintia Hills was the poor finishing of its strikers.

The team nearly scored after a long range shot taken from outside the box, hit the cross bar in the 50th minute. After this missed opportunity, it was all over for AJSS as no real chances were created.

Meanwhile, MCSS in their counter attack got many opportunities to increase the lead but here too the strikers failed to capitalise as the match eventually ended with MCSS emerging victorious.

In the other match, OMRMSS thrashed MCSS 4-0.

The scorers for OMRMSS were Superfine Suting (5th minute), Chesterpaul Lyngdoh (14th minute), Bonyface Lyngdoh (21st minute) and Mebanker Suting (48th minute).
