Non-compliance of sticker rule

SHILLONG: The city has seen some respite from the traffic jams thanks to the withdrawal of more than four hundred and fifty local taxis in the past one year.

Confirming this on Wednesday, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Herbert Lyngdoh, said a total number of 461 local taxis have been put off the road since September last year as they were found plying without the mandatory stickers issued by the traffic department.

Statistics made available by the Traffic branch revealed that last year the traffic police had issued 4871 stickers, whereas only 4410 stickers were issued this year, 461 less than last year.

“Local taxis which did not display the stickers have been put of the road until they renew their stickers,” the ASP (traffic) told a group of reporters here on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Lyngdoh also informed that as per a new decision, no vehicles would be allowed to enter Malki through Shillong Law College. All vehicles proceeding to Malki will have to enter the area via Seven Set School.
