Guwahati: Life was hit in parts of Assam, particularly the western fringe districts, in view of a 24-hour statewide bandh called by the united forum of Koch-Rajbongshi groups against Tuesday’s alleged police atrocities on the group’s protestors.

Business establishments, banking institutions and educational institutes in several parts of western districts, especially in the districts of Kokrajhar and Chirang, remained closed.

Vehicles also kept off the roads. The bandh was called against alleged police atrocities on Koch-Rajbongshi protestors near New Bongaigaon railway station yesterday.

The protestors were squatting on the railway tracks to enforce a train blockade yesterday as part of their agitation, demanding Scheduled Caste status for Koch-Rajbongshi community and a separate Kamatapur state. (UNI)
