SHILLONG: The Office of the Director General of police has maintained that an amount of Rs 24000 has been given to sub-inspector Sengsrang Ch Marak, who received serious injuries during an encounter with the GNLA militants last month, as a financial assistance.

In a statement issued here, the superintendent of police(SCRB) DN Jyrwa said out Rs 24000, an amount of Rs 11000 has been spent on his treatment.

Opposition NCP earlier had slammed the State Government for not coming forward to help sub-inspector Sengsrang Ch Marak and the party even stated that the injured cop has received only Rs 5,000 from DIG (Western Range) GHP Raju.

“The police department is fully alive to its responsibilities towards the SI who was injured in discharge of his duties,” the statement added.
