JOWAI: The Cabinet decision to withdraw the five-month-old Administrative Rule in the JHADC has set the cat among the pigeons since the Congress MDCs still seem to be weighing their options on whether to support the MPCC elected CPP leader Hambertus Nongtdu or the former CEM Lamdibok Sumer.

“The lifting of the Administrative Rules on Thursday without the concern of the MPCC has only created more differences between the Congress MDCs in JHADC,” a senior Congress man from Jaintia Hills said on Friday.

Meanwhile, sources informed that deposed CEM Lamdibok Sumer is likely to regain his status as the Chief Executive Member in the Council.

As of now, Sumer group claims the support of 16 members (15 Congress MDCs and one UPD MDC) while Nongtdu group has 13 members (12 Congress MDCs and 1 Independent member) on their side in the House of 30. Independent MDC Edmund Speaker Lyngdoh, who has been convicted by the court, has been ruled out of this political game.

Interestingly, MDCs camping with Sumer are confident that Hilarius Dkhar and Brington Shylla, who have already pledged their support to Nongtdu, would cast their votes in favour of Sumer in case a trial of strength is called by the Governor.
