Governor inaugurates seminar on social evils

 SHILLONG: A one -day seminar on social evels and tree plantation programme was inaugurated by governor R S Mooshahary at Pomlum Higher Secondary school on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that the main motive of the seminar is to bring into light various social issues which directly or indirectly affect a person or members of a society. He further highlighted the steps required to tackle the social problems like early marriages, violence aginst women, food habits, HIV/AIDS and alcoholism which affect the growth of the society at large.

The seminar organized by the Meghalay Pensioners Association and sponsored by District Planning, East Khasi Hills was also attended by local MLA R V Lyngdoh, Syiem of Hima Mylliem Latho Manik Syiem, Prof Dr Animesh Mishra, teachers, students and others.

Later, the chief guest and other dignitaries took part in a tree plantaion programme in the school premises.
