Hyderabad: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday castigated Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for targetting the party on the Bomb Blast in New Delhi saying that the BJP was ”politicising” it.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Naidu said Mr Chidambaram’s statemet was ‘height of arrogance’ even though the party had only stated that the centre should take stringent measures to ensure that the blasts do not recur again.
He said after the blast at the High Court in New Delhi in May 2011, the centre has not set up any CCTV cameras till now and the Manmohan Singh government was at fault not taking steps to prevent recurrence of such terrorist acts
Are we wrong in giving advice to the government for taking steps. Is it not the duty of the opposition to protect the lives and property of the people??, Mr Naidu asked and said despite blasts in several cities earlier, the gesture showed by the UPA government so far was only announcing compensation for the dead and those severely injured in the blasts.
Mr Naidu also said can it be a policy for the centre by announcing the compensation even though blasts were happening one after the other in the country.
After the terrorists attack on the Parliament, the BJP-led NDA government had taken firm steps immedately and gunned down the terrorists within 21 minutes after the incident, he claimed.
Naidu said the UPA II government has to be firm on the terrorism issue and put it down with iron hand.
However, he said it was mixing up terror with religion and playing vote bank politics in each and every bomb blast incidents that is happening. The BJP leader demanded that Afzal Guru, convict in the Parliament attack case be hanged immediately as he is the enemy of the nation and deserves no sympathy.
Though the terrorist organisations like Huji and Indian Mujahiddin were sending threatening e-mails that there would be further blasts if Afzal Guru’s death sentence was not changed to life imprisonment, the former BJP President said the UPA government should not cow down and hang him immediately.
Mr Naidu made these remarks in the light of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly contemplating to pass a resolution on the lines of Tamil Nadu assembly for commuting the capital punishment to life for the three Sri Lanka nationals involved in the Rajiv Gandhi Assasination case.
He criticised the Tamil Nadu government for passing a resolution in the Assembly and said he was able to understand the logic behind it.
The three involved in the killing of Mr Rajiv Gandhi do not deserve any mercy. (UNI)
