TURA: There is shock and disbelief in Tura over the gruesome murder of a young boy whose body was left outside the BSF headquarters in Praharinagar, Tura, on Thursday morning in what medical experts and government officials believe to have been a case of human sacrifice to appease the gods.
The gruesome crime has sent shivers down the spine of people in Tura town and questions have been raised as to how such a barbaric incident could have occurred within the premises of a paramilitary force that prides itself on security of its personnel and that of the country’s borders.
The child, Krishna Singh, studying in Class two, was the second son of Kamal Singh, a water carrier of the 121 Battalion of BSF. The family resided in the official quarters of the 121 Battalion of the BSF inside Praharinagar camp.
He disappeared while on a visit to the camp temple to offer prayers on the occasion of the Durga Puja celebrations on Wednesday evening.
Krishna had left home with his 10-year-old brother to pay a visit to the temple that was just a stone’s throw away from their quarters at around 5 pm.
As the elder brother was going in to offer prayers, Krishna reportedly mentioned that he would not linger on and decided to head back home.
However, when the elder brother returned home he found his sibling hadn’t returned. A frantic search was carried out well into the night by the BSF personnel but to no avail.
At 6 am, next morning, his badly mutilated and naked body was found in a bush just behind the back premises of the campus not very far from the staff quarters.
The body bore the marks of several stab injuries. The skin born burn marks at several places apparently burnt from incense sticks lodged on his body. The burnt marks were on his forehead, left ear, his stomach, chest and even his thighs.
A post mortem at Tura Civil Hospital ruled out sexual assault but the tests confirmed that the young boy died from multiple grievous injuries on his vital organs. His pancreases, liver, lungs and even his spleen had apparently ruptured from the several stabs onto his soft body.
The killers are believed to have used a sharp object to repeatedly fork the boy’s body in a satanic form of ritual. Medical experts believe the child suffered immensely before his death.
Police have registered a case of murder and several persons from the campus have been questioned.
One of the prime suspects is a self-styled godman or Tantrik who was reportedly seen on Tuesday and Wednesday inside the campus. On Thursday morning when the child’s body was found the Tantrik had already disappeared. He was located in Mancachar town of Dhubri district, Assam.
Tura police dispatched a team to bring in the tantrik for questioning on Thursday but was unsuccessful as an angry mob refused to allow them to take their godman into custody.
Efforts are being made through the Assam police to bring the tantrik to Tura for interrogation.
