BANGALORE:The Karnataka government Friday declared 14 more taluks (revenue subdivisions) as drought-hit, taking their number to 84 out of the state’s 176 taluks.

“We have declared 14 more taluks as drought hit and relief operations will start on a war-footing,” Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda told reporters here.

The government had declared 70 taluks as drought-hit on Oct 4.

The affected taluks are in north and south Karnataka. Coastal Karnataka has had excess rains this monsoon.

Gowda said Rs.40 crore had been released for relief operations in the affected areas.

“Funds would not be a problem in providing relief. We are also approaching the central government soon for financial aid,” he said.(IANS)
