Couple killed for suspected witchcraft

Kokrajhar: A couple was killed on Sunday by villagers after they were suspected of practising witchcraft in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district.

The police said Bijuram Narzary and his wife Urbasi were killed by the villagers of Jaraguri and their bodies dumped into the Sankosh river.

The couple were killed after they were warned of practising black magic in the village. The police later fished out their bodies from the river. (PTI)

Rabha ultra arrested

Goalpara: One Rabha militant was on Sunday arrested by security forces in lower Assam’s Goalpara district, the police said.

A joint team of army and police intercepted the ultra, belonging to a less-known insurgent outfit, the Rabha Viper Army, identified as Tapan Rabha from the Bormohora area.

A nine mm pistol and some ammunition were recovered from the ultra. (UNI)

Woman held with fake currency

Kohima: Dimapur police have arrested a woman with fake currency worth Rs 5000 near DC court junction here.

Official sources said today fake currency of Rs 5000 was seized from the possession of the 29-year-old woman.

The woman was arrested by a joint team of Mahila Indian Reserve Battalion and West Police personnel near DC court junction on Saturday.

The woman had gone to purchase some items from a shop when the alerted shopkeeper reported the matter to the police, sources said.

Further interrogation was on in this direction, sources added. (UNI)

NSCN-IM not to allow burial of Naga leader

Wungnaoshang: Naga rebel group NSCN-IM today said that it would not allow the burial of prominent Naga leader and Independent MLA in Manipur AWungnao-shang Keishing at any Naga-settled area in the state. NSCN-IM in a statement issued from Dimapur said Keishing, who died yesterday at J N Hospital following illness, had “worked against the interests of Nagas.” 54-year-old Keishing hailed from Naga-inhabited Ukhrul and represented the prestigious Phungyar constituency in the district, which was once the seat of former Manipur Chief Minister Rishang Keishing.
