Washington: Former English national team goalkeeper Chris Woods has been appointed the goalkeeping coach of the United States’ national team.

Woods will take the American posting while continuing his coaching role with Everton as manager David Moyes had permitted. He has been with the Toffees as the goaltending coach for 13 years, Xinhua reported.

The 51-year-old was recruited by new U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann who talked to Everton before bringing in Woods. Everton’s goalkeeper is Tim Howard who is also a member of the American team. Since Klinsmann replaced Bradley on July 29, the Americans drew with Mexico and lost to Costa Rica and Belgium before defeating Honduras on Saturday. The U.S. will play Ecuador in a football friendly on Tuesday in New Jersey. (Agencies)
