Mancini faces jail for alleged assault

Rio de Janeiro: A judge has requested a three year eight month jail term be imposed on Brazilian footballer Mancini for the alleged sexual assault of a young woman at a party organised by teammate Ronaldinho, the Italian press reported Tuesday.Former Roma, Inter and AC Milan winger Mancini is accused of taking advantage of a drunken Brazilian woman at a party hosted by Ronaldinho in Milan last December. The seven-times capped player is alleged to have offered to escort the model home, before taking her to his apartment where the attack occurred. Both Ronaldinho and the 31-year-old Mancini were based at AC Milan at the time. Mancini, who now plays for Atletico Mineiro in his native Brazil, denies the charges. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, prosecutors pursued the case despite the alleged victim withdrawing her complaint. The verdict is expected on November 28. (Agencies)
