SHILLONG: The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Tuesday remanded two foreigners to five days police custody for their alleged involvement in cheating people by producing notes using chemicals.

The arrested persons were identified as Theophalus Luk Sparkile ( 26) from Liberia and Lama Floreng ( 29) of Republic Guinea, a country in West Africa.

Police had laid a trap against the two accused by sending police personnel pretending to be civilians keen to know about their chemical which transforms papers into 500 rupee notes, police said.

After learning of their trick, police arrested the two from Hotel Hind Jalpan at Iew Mawlong.

The two would cheat people by using a chemical on a blank paper for producing a Rs 500 note.

Additional SP (Crime) Vivek Syiem said that the two accused have been in the city for about one month adding that they were in Kolkata before landing in Shillong.
