Mangaldai: BJP national Kisan Morcha president Om Prakash Dhankar on Wednesday visited Assam’s Darrang district where four jute growers were killed in police firing on Monday last and demanded a probe into the incident by a sitting high court judge.
Mr Dhankar visited the homes of the four victims at Besimari and Baruajhar areas and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.
He gave Rs 25,000 each to the families of those killed and Rs 5,000 each to the 11 injured farmers who were undergoing treatment at Mangaldai civil hospital.
Talking to reporters later, Mr Dhankar demanded an enquiry into the incident by a sitting high court judge.
He also wanted exemplary punishment for the police officials involved in the Monday’s incident.
Four farmers were killed and several others, including police personnel, injured when police fired on jute growers, holding protest demanding better prices at Besimari weekly market on Monday. (UNI)
