Kohima: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has opposed the proposed visit of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to Nagaland University (NU) and urged the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) to take ”appropriate action” to block his visit to Lumami NU headquarters if his interest was to promote NSUI movement.
In a statement on Wednesday, NESO chairman Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjya and special coordinator N S N Lotha said no political party or leader should visit educational institutions with politically motivated interests.
The NESO had urged the NSF to take ”appropriate action” and block the MP’s visit to Lumami, the headquarters of the NU.
The NESO leaders said it was against politicisation of educational institutions and universities and questioned the intention of the proposed visit of Mr Gandhi, the Congress general secretary, in-charge of National Students’ Union of India, a Congress-affiliated students’ union, to Nagaland University headquarters.
The students’ body of the region said it has high respect for Mr Gandhi as an upcoming young leader of India.
However, the NESO said, ” If he attempts to pollute the minds of the students with his political ideology, the NESO would be compelled to safeguard the interest of the students. ” (UNI)
