Terror alert in metros ahead of Diwali

NEW DELHI: India Friday issued a nationwide terror alert, particularly for metros such as Delhi and Mumbai, after security agencies found a car laden with five kg of explosives meant for the Indian capital at the railway station in Ambala, Haryana.The alert has been issued by intelligence agencies following information that the explosive consignment was meant for the capital, ahead of Diwali festival later this month.”The alert states that terrorists are planning to strike during Diwali,” government sources said here.Following the alert, police forces in New Dehi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, apart from major cities such as Bangalore and Hyderabad, have ramped up security, sources added.The explosives recovered in Ambala were procured by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and were meant for the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) to set off bomb blasts in the capital, Delhi police had said Thursday.  Gunmen loot Rs 44 lakh from ATM, kill 2 guards

ALLAHABAD: Two security personnel deployed at a bank ATM here were shot dead on Friday while two others received serious injuries as armed robbers opened fire and decamped with Rs 44 lakh cash, a senior police official said.The incident occurred when currency notes were being loaded into the automatic transaction machine around 3pm in Mumfordganj locality, deputy inspector general of police, Allahabad, Raj Kumar told reporters.He said as soon as a van carrying the cash for being loaded into the automatic transaction machine reached the ATM outlet, four gunmen arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire.Two security personnel, who were carrying the cash inside the ATM outlet, died on the spot while two others received serious injuries even as the motorcycle-borne assailants sped away with the cash, the DIG said.The wounded security men were rushed to a hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.  ‘Day not far when Cabinet meeting will be held in Tihar’

UMARIA(MP): Alleging that the Congress-led UPA government was neckdeep in corruption, senior BJP leader L K Advani on Friday claimed the day was not far when the government would have to call its Cabinet meeting in Tihar Jail.”It is really unfortunate for Indian democracy that the UPA ministers, neckdeep in corruption, are going to jail. It appears that the sad day is not far when the UPA government would have to convene its Cabinet meeting in Tihar jail,” he said addressing the Jan-Chetna Yatra in Umaria district.Advani was referring to the series of arrests — including that of former Union Telecom Minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi, and senior Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi — in connection with the 2G and CWG scams.Advani said the action taken against the leaders was not due to the good-intentions of the UPA government, but because of the intervention of the Supreme Court.(PTI)

BANGALORE: Congress in Karnataka on Friday flayed the ruling BJP’s decision to seek clarifications on the Lokayukta report over illegal mining, a step which it described as an attempt to “save some persons”.”Section 13 of the Lokayukta act is very clear. Either the Government can accept the report or reject it. In the instant case, the Governor has already accepted the report and initiated action against the then chief minister”, KPCC President G Parameshwara told a press conference here.He demanded that the guilty be punished.(PTI)
