Lucknow: Congress general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Digvijay Singh on Saturday said Anna Hazare should start his fast against corruption in the state and Congress will also join the agitation against the corruption of Mayawati government.

”Anna should sit on fast against corruption in UP and Congress will lend all support to this agitation and even I will join him in his fast,” Mr Singh told reporters here.

The senior Congres leader said UP had become an epitome of corruption and if Anna was really serious on the issue then he should announce to sit on fast in the State.

Denying there was any move of the Congress to replace Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with a Dalit PM, Mr Singh said the statement of Ms Mayawati made yesterday in Noida was just an effort to divert the attention of the people from her misgovernance and misuse of public funds on the parks and statues.

”Congress is the only party in the country which has contributed a lot for the uplfit of Dalits and tribals in the country and political parties like Bahujan Samaj Party are just exploiting the Dalits in the name of vote bank,” he claimed adding that the Congress had created social awareness among the Dalits in the country.

Welcoming the decision of Anna Hazare to wait till the Winter session of the Parliament for the Lokpal Bill, he said that Team Anna should excercise patience as the government had already accepted all their three demands related to a strong Lokpal Bill.” Anna should respect the Parliament and wait for its decision,” he added.

The Congress general secretary was, however, very critical on the team members of Anna without naming anyone alleging that they were just trying to exploit Hazare for their political ambitions.

Criticising the Jan Chetna Rath Yatra led by BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said there was no public support behind the yatra even in BJP dominated Madhya Pradesh and the party was involved in illegal approach to make the yatra successful. (UNI)
