SHILLONG: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), DoNER and Parliamentary Affairs, Paban Singh Ghatowar inaugurated the New Buildings of Mother’s School and Mother’s Vocational Training Centre (MVCT) at Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture (SAIIC) on Monday.

On the occasion, the DoNER minister spoke about the early life of Aurobindo and his academic education.

He also outlined Aurobindo’s stint in Baroda both as Secretary and then as a Professor in Baroda College besides Tagore’s tribute to Aurobindo and Deshbandhu CR Das, who stood by him during the Alipore trial.

Leader of Opposition, Conrad Sangma speaking on the occasion, said that faith can do wonders and the same will actually help the institute to grow in future.

Member, NEC, PP Shrivastav said everybody thinks of building infrastructure and superstructure but this institute is building a foundation.

“Our education is knowledge based but we need skills and it is quite evident that the Mother’s School is going to achieve that because our education system is the traditional Indian Gurukul system that survives on community support and this school is going in that direction,” he said.

Director, RGIIM, Dr Ashoke K Dutta, said that this is a school which is different that encourages people to pursue their areas of system with no formal system as it nurtures the talent in an individual.

Chairman and Managing Trustee, SAIIC, Dr BB Dutta, said that the two new buildings are new additions to the institute.

He also stressed upon the need to involve both the politicians and the people in the state to know what this institute is all about.

Besides this, two Kolkata based artistes – Pritam Paul, Sitar Exponent and Sudip Kumar Chatterjee (Benares Gharana), Tabla Exponent – enthralled the near full house at SAIIC on Sunday and Monday.

The function was also attended by few Assam MLAs.
