SHILLONG: Expressing concern over the dearth of dentists and dental colleges in the North East Region, Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary emphasised on the need to set up more dental colleges in the region.
“We don’t have sufficient dentists and dental colleges in the region which creates difficulty for the people and students who want to pursue their studies in dental courses”, lamented the governor.

While highlighting on the importance of oral hygiene, Mooshahary stated that people in the state don’t really take care of oral hygiene and they fail to see the consequences of ignoring oral hygiene can make one vulnerable to many diseases like oral cancer.
Meanwhile, concerned over the presence of only one dental college in the whole North East, President of the IDA Dr Dibyendu Majumdar informed that the association is open to applications from the North Eastern states to open up new dental college in the region.
“I am still open to applications from the region regarding the setting up of new dental colleges provided these colleges have sufficient infrastructure and faculties”, he added.
The governor also released a souvenir on the occasion. Around 500 delegates from various parts of the North East were present at the conference including speakers from across the country and abroad.
