BHUBANESWAR:Security was tightened across Orissa’s communally-sensitive Kandhamal district Tuesday after an arrested Maoist revealed the guerrillas plan to attack two police stations in the area, an officer said.

“Security has been intensified across the district. Vehicles are being checked at all the entry and exit points,” Deputy Superintendent of Police G.C. Behera told IANS.

“Day and night patrolling has been intensified at all vulnerable areas. People with suspicious activities are being questioned,” he added.

Behera said local Maoist leader Jagannath Nayak told the police that a group of 150 rebels have planned to attack at least two police stations and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp Thursday.

The 45-year-old rebel who claimed to be the secretary of the local militia group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was arrested last week from the district’s Daringbadi area.

He disclosed the guerrillas, who infiltrated into the district from Bihar and Jharkhand in recent months, were preparing to carry out attacks on the police stations at Brahmani Gaon and Daringbadi, and a CRPF camp at Paniganda village, Behera said.(IANS)
