Guwahati: BJP on Wednesday demanded a status paper from Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Indo-Bangladesh land swap agreement and accused him of giving away state’s land to the neighbouring country.

“Gogoi is disintegrating the country and this is not acceptable and correct … He has to show land records on how much land has been given away to Bangladesh. He has to clarify and publish a white paper on it,” BJP national general secretary Kiran Maheshwari told reporters here.

She said BJP MPs would also raise the demand during the winter session of Parliament.

“Gogoi says Assam’s land has been given to Bangladesh because it was their land. Pakistan has also occupied land in Jammu and Kashmir. Then, will India give away the land there to Pakistan?” she questioned.

Maheshwari said Gogoi had promised to provide land to the landless during the assembly polls in the state. But nothing has been done so far and he had instead given away land to Bangladesh.

Under the land deal inked between the two countries during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Dhaka last month, Bangladesh would receive 357 acres of Assam’s land, while the state would reclaim 1,240 acres from that country. (PTI)
