Lal Thanhawla appointed member of Inter-state Council
Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has been appointed member of the Standing Committee of the Inter-state Council by the Union Home Ministry, an official statement said here on Wednesday. The statement said that the Standing Committee of the Inter-state Council has 15 members, out of which nine members were state chief ministers and six union ministers, including the union finance minister. Manipuris held for killing dogs
Dehra Dun: Two brothers from Manipur have been arrested here for allegedly killing street dogs and eating their meat, police said on Wednesday.
On a complaint from the People for Animals, an NGO, that dogs were found nissing in Malsi Deer Park area here, police arrested Ila and his brother Sima yesterday.
Ila is a manager of a private firm here.
During their interrogation, the two admitted they had been cooking and eating meat of the dogs which, they said, was a tradition in Manipur and Nagaland, according to the police. (PTI)
PM condoles death of Ghutoshe Yepthomi
New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today condoled the death of former Nagaland Minister Ghutoshe Yepthomi. “He was a recognised leader who worked for the welfare of the people of Nagaland. I offer my condolences to his family and admirers,” Singh said in a statement here. Yepthomi served as a minister in the Nagaland government between 1985-88 and handled the portfolios of sports and youth welfare, and health and family welfare. Yepthomi breathed his last in Kohima on Sunday. (PTI)
Nagaland Cong lauds AICC
Kohima: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday appreciated AICC chief Sonia Gandhi for appointing N Lucy as the new president of Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress.
In a release here the NPCC also congratulated the newly appointed president of the State Mahila Congress.
The NPCC hoped that under her leadership the party would gain further strength. (UNI)
Nagaland Speaker to attend AIPOC at Jaipur
Kohima: Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie would leave Kohima on Wednesday to attend the All India Presiding Officers Conference at Jaipur, Rajasthan from September 20-24.
He would be accompanied by Deputy Speaker Ralanthung Yanthan, Assembly Secretary and a team of officers.
Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Speaker P Purushothaman in a press release informed that topic selected for discussion at the conference included determination of maximum period for assent to bills passed by the legislature, the role of the legislature in scrutinising and making laws for good governance, era of coalition government – its compulsions and challenges.
