SHILLONG: Hundreds of government employees in the State under the banner of Meghalaya Secretariat Services Association (MSSA) has demanded payment of 30 per cent arrears as per the revised pay scale since January 1, 2007 before Christmas.
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma here, the MSSA expressed its concern over the delay in payment of the arrears and demanded the release of the same latest by Christmas.
It has been learnt that the Government has already released the arrears to those employees who have either retired or are retiring during 2011-2012.
“The government should release the arrears to all the serving employees as well without further delay so that the employees do not get discouraged,” MSSA general secretary S Syiemlieh stated in the memorandum.
The employees have also asked the State Government to expedite release of dearness allowance (DA) admissible to the employees since July 2011.
According to the MSSA, the delay in release of dues has caused hardship to the employees who are reeling under rising prices of essential commodities.
