Guwahati: Assam government has launched a socio economic and caste census here with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi describing it as essential to plan and achieve the targets of welfare schemes for the poor.
“The new set of socio-economic indicators would help in fixing and achieving the targets of various schemes aimed at poverty alleviation and employment generation,” Gogoi said while launching the Socio-Economic and Caste Census 2011 here, on Wednesday.
The census is being carried out after 2002 and it will be conducted by state Panchayat and Rural Development department. (UNI)
