SHILLONG: Along with the rest of the country, the Police Commemoration Day was observed in the State on Friday. To mark the occasion, Meghalaya Police organised a function in memory of the brave personnel who laid down their lives while fighting against insurgency.
DGP N Ramachandran was present on the occasion besides several other top police officials.
It was mentioned that 635 police personnel in the country including six from Meghalaya lost their lives on the line of duty in the past one year.
The six policemen killed in the State in the past one year are Havildar Blein Mukhroh, Constable John Hillbirth Sangma, Constable Duke M Sangma (all three killed on June 4, 2011), Constable Exmarting Marak, Havildar Gopal Prasad Nunia (both killed on July 3, 2011) and Havildar William Mawiong (kidnapped and killed on October 15).
