Bangalore: In possibly a first for the Silicon city, a 21 year-old woman has given birth to quadruplets at a private hospital in the city.

Nafisa gave birth to two boys and two girls within the space of one and half minutes, starting at 14.21 hrs yesterday at Cloudnine Hospital.

The babies, weighing between 1.03 kg and 1.35 kg are doing fine and are now under observation in the hospital’s NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)”, the hospital said in a statement.

Dr Leela Bhagwan, senior Consultant Obstetrician of the hospital said the mother, hailing from Andhra Pradesh had been trying for a second baby and came to know she was carrying quadruplets after a few months. She was then referred to this hospital.

Dr Kishore Kumar, senior Consultant Neonatologist and CEO of the hospital said such cases are very rare and it is the first case of its kind in Bangalore in this decade. (PTI)
