Lal Thanhawla meets Sonia
Aizawl: Mizoram chief minister Lal Thanhawla on Monday called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and spprised her of the financial problems being faced by the state. An official statement said that Lal Thanhawla informed Gandhi that he had already discussed the financial crunch faced by Mizoram with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and the UPA chairperson assured him that she would pursue the matter. Gandhi accepted the chief minister’s invitation to attend a function to be organised by the Ministry of DoNER and the Mizoram government in Delhi to commemorate the 25th year of the Mizo peace accord, the statement added. Bus bursts into flames in Assam
Tezpur: Atleast 30 people had a miraculous escape when a bus burst into flames in Assam’s Sonitpur district on Monday, police said. The bus hit a rock and its fuel tank burst into flames at Kehurakonda on National Highway 52. The passengers alighted from the bus on time and none was injured. The passengers along with the local people put off the blaze in which the bus was completely damaged. (PTI)
Two boys drown in Assam
Guwahati: Two boys were feared drowned in river Buridihing in Assam. According to police, Deepak Sahani and Manish Gupta alongwith their friends had gone out for a swim in the river near Duliajan township on Sunday. While their friends returned home, the two were missing since then. The police have launched a search operation. (PTI)
BJP demands PR in Arunachal
Itanagar: BJP’s national general secretary and former MP Tapir Gao on Monday demanded immediate invoking of Article 356 (1) in Arunachal Pradesh. In separate memoranda submitted to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and AICC president Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Gao said, ”Arunachal Pradesh, bordering three countries — Bhutan, China and Myanmar receives frequent threats from China and needs a stable government.” The prevailing situation had become such that no single developmental projects, schemes files were being processed or cleared which could not be overlooked, the memorandum said.
