Imphal: The Sadar Hills Districthood Demand committee (SHDDC) failed to turn up for further talks with the state government on Monday which was agreed between the two sides during the talks on Sunday night at the Chief Minister’s bungalow and decided to continue its stir.
The decision came after Chief Minister O Ibobi assured the SHDDC representatives that Sadar Hills districthood will be granted within six months against the November 10 dateline set by the committee to declare it on or before the dateline.
Although the Chief Minister is ready to create three more sub-divisions in Sadar Hills anytime according to the demand of SHDDC, but SHDDC will stick to its earlier stand for inauguration of Sadar Hills districthood within the time given by it, maintained Tonghen kipgen, general secretary, SHDDC on Monday.
The three proposed new sub-divisions are T Vaichong (IT road), Kangchup Geljang and Chaningpokpi, all three are to be created from Kangpokpi, Saitu and Saikul assembly constituencies respectively.
Even after seven rounds of talks with the Chief Minister of Manipur, the Manipur Government could not come out with any concrete decision to inaugurate Sadar Hills as a full-fledged Autonomous Distric.
The Chief Minister had on August 25 and September 1, 2011 assured SHDDC that he would fulfil the demand within a period of 2 months even though the Sate Cabinet had formed Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries with a term of 3 months, SHDDC said on Monday.
As decided earlier, all Government functions, election campaigns and all forms of electioneering will continue to ban in Sadar Hills. It will continue in the month of November too, SHDDC added.
SHDDC also earnestly appealed to the people of Manipur and State Level Kut Committee not to organise Kut celebration on the November 1 and desist from organising the celebration in all the hill districts of Manipur, particularly in Sadar Hills.
“It is also regretted that the auspicious occasion of Kut celebration could neither be participated nor organised by the Sadar Hills people in all its solemnity and gaiety” the committee said.
“We once again express our regret to the people of Manipur for causing hardships following the long economic blockade imposed by SHDDC due to mis-governance and indifference attitude of the State Government toward the people of Sadar Hills for 40 years”, SHDDC said. (NNN)
