Shillong: “The biggest challenge in the health sector is the availability of fund which is an important issue that needs to be addressed,” said Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.
Dr Sangma said the health sector was being given top priority in the State and “all efforts are being made to improve the healthcare delivery system”.
The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering organized to mark the launching of two ambulances for the Rajabala Development Society at Umshyrpi College ground here on Friday.
According to Dr Sangma, “the areas of deficiencies in the health sector particularly in the NRHM are being identified and efforts to appropriately are being made to address the problems.”
Referring to the State Government’s commitment to improve the health scenario in the state, he said work on setting up of two medical colleges was underway to address the limited absorption capacity for medical students in other medical colleges
The Government would come up with the Universal Health Insurance Programme soon, he said, adding “We are in the process of upscaling the facilities in the referral centres of the State”.
