AIDS meet

The Meghalaya AIDS Control Society will organise a state-level meeting under the National AIDS Control Programme III with important key partners and stakeholders of Meghalaya for the implementation of Multimedia Campaign on HIV and AIDS in the State on October 31. The Commissioner and Secretary of the state Health and Family Welfare Department, DP Wahlang will preside over the function.

Prize distribution

The Prize distribution ceremony of the various cultural programmes will be held at Yogamaya Ashram premises on October 29.

Wine fest

The 9th Shillong Wine Festival will be held at Crinoline Swimming Pool on November 11 and 12. Wine makers from other states of North East are expected to take part in the festival. A wine and dance session will also be part of the festival on both days.

Vigilance Week

The Vigilance Awareness Programme is organized in the NEC Secretariat from October 31 to November 4.

Illicit liquor

In a drive against illicit liquor conducted by the Excise Staff of East Khasi Hills in the restaurants and stalls in the town and its outskirts during September detected around 55 cases with a seizure of 282.620 litres of illicitly distilled liquor and 14.630 litres of IMFL. In this connection, 54 persons were arrested under the Excise Act.

Suicide

One girl identified as Tamarina Sangma (23) committed suicide by hanging herself at her room on Friday. She was working as a maid in the house of one D Ranee. Police said the investigation was on.

Infantry, ‘ The Queen of Battle, celebrated 64th Infantry Day at Shillong Garrison on Thursday commemorating the landing of the first Infantry men in Srinagar in 1947, after Pakistan irregular forces invaded independent India.
