Setting up of warehouse at Urkali opposed

 NONGSTOIN: People of Urkali and other neighbouring areas have decided move the State government opposing setting-up of a bonded warehouse at Urkali.

The villagers in this regard met at Nongstoin on Wednesday and decided to write to the State government and Syiem of Nongstoin demanding cancellation of license issued to the proprietor of the warehouse K Lyngkhoi.

Lyngkhoi, recently, won a court case for setting up of the same.

It is not the first time that the local NGOs are protesting the construction of Urkali bonded warehouse.

Last year, several NGOs and student bodies protested the government decision to open the warehouse.

JAC formed: A Joint Action Committee (JAC) was formed to protest the Union Ministry of Environment & Forest’s decision to issue NOC to Ms. Megyalaya Ferrous Alloy Pvt Ltd to set up a ferro alloy plant at Wah Blei in West Khasi Hills district.

A meeting in this was held at KSU’s office.

The meeting was attended by the members of KSU, FKJGP Mawshynrut circle, Synjuk ki Rangbah shnong Riangdo Area, Synjuk ki Seng Longkmie Riangdo Area, Ri-Lyngngam Rural Development Association, Sein Pynneh Dokha Ri-Nongtrai and number of surrounding villagers.

The meeting decided to organise a protest rally on November 11 at Riangdo.

It may here be mentioned that the NGOs held public rally and protest when the Meghalaya State pollution Control Board organised a public hearing on May 11 at Wah Blei- Porla village.

Surprisingly, the Ministry issued the clearance on September 21 without taking into consideration vies of the local people.
