Bandh paralyses life in Assam

Morigaon: Normal life was affected in Assam’s Nagaon, Morigaon and Kamrup (Metro) districts by a day-long bandh called by the All Tiwa Students Union. Several motorbikes were damaged when bandh supporters pelted stone at Baghora and Borpuji, police sources said. All shops and business establishment remained closed while traffic on the National Highway 47 was thin. The bandh was to protest the inclusion of Rina Pator as the chief executive member of the Tiwa Autonomous council. (PTI)

ATM looted

Itanagar: Five miscreants looted Rs 22 lakh from the ATM of Axis Bank located at Naharlagun at gun point on Saturday.

Officer in charge of Naharlagun police station Techi Sushen told PTI that five youths coming in a car and a motorcycle robbed the money from a bank official when he went to the ATM to deposit the cash at noon.

“The employee along with the guards was overpowered at gun point and the youths fled with the cash”, the OC disclosed.

Later police arrested Bungga Bhai, one of the miscreants from Model Village who confessed of committing the crime. However, no recovery of the looted amount could be made, the OC informed.

A case has been registered and a manhunt launched to nab the other absconding miscreants, he added. (PTI)

Karbi militant nabbed

Nagaon: One Karbi militant was nabbed by the army in Assam’s Nagaon district on Saturday. Official sources said the militant was nabbed by the army near the Misa camp when he was travelling in a vehicle. One pistol, some live cartridges, one grenade, two mobile handsets and 11 mobile phone SIM cards were seized from him. (PTI)
