Kohima: Former Nagaland Chief Minister and Governor of Goa and Maharashtra S C Jamir has said founding Naga fathers envisioned a democratic, progressive and modern Naga people and land, but today the state and her people have been suppressed and oppressed by the ”gun culture” and ”gun-totting” elements.

The veteran politician was addressing a students’ program, ”fresher’s social” of Pranabananda Women’s College in Dimapur yesterday and said only noble-thinking and people-conscious citizens can save Nagaland.

He reminded of a truth: ‘Damocles’ Sword of fear psychosis’ perpetually hanging over the minds and souls of the Naga citizens by the ‘quixotic gun-totting elements’ have completely devastated even inborn Naga courage and bravery.

The Nagas can no longer afford to give in to the threat of the gun unless the Naga people want to gift their children grief as their future. He said the visionary founding fathers of the Nagas wanted a sovereign, secular and democratic people, who stood for modernity and progress in infrastructure, administration and education, systems and services, education and health

” In contrast, the Naga society is still floundering in doldrums and the minds of the people are plagued by confusion and dilemma, ” Mr Jamir said.

” This is primarily the result of land and protracted years of violence, suppressions and oppressions under a senseless and misguided gun culture. Only God and faith in Him can redeem the people, and save the mortally wounded and hapless state and her people, he told the gathering. (UNI)
