SHILLONG: The Indian Air Force (IAF) now has decided to deploy Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) in the North-East.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the Air Force Golf Cup here in the city on Sunday, AOC-in-C Headquarters Eastern Air Command Air Marshal S Varthaman said the full squadron of ALHs would be deployed in the Eastern Air Force command by next year.
According to him, the full squadron for the ALH will be first deployed at Tezpur in Assam.
Air Marshal Varthaman said, “These light helicopters do not have any problems in their functioning.”
It may be mentioned that the AHL is a multi-mission helicopter in 5.5 tonne class, fully designed and developed indigenously by Hindustan Aeronatics Limited (HAL).
It is designed to meet the requirements of both military and civil operators.
Going by the name of Dhruv, the ALH can perform both utility and attack roles. The chopper has several advanced technological systems in place.
