NEW DELHI: Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Sekhar Mooshahary has urged the Centre to sensitize the villagers living along Indo-Bangladesh border about the recently signed border agreements between the two countries to remove the misgivings.

Addressing the two-day Governors’ conference here, Mooshahary, himself a former Director General of BSF, said people living in the border villages are the actual stake holders. “They will also be convinced if the agreements are in the overall interest of the country in the long run,” he said.

Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman in his speech said border fencing work along the India-Bangladesh international boundary was progressing well and with the rapid deployment of BSF personnel, border crimes has come under control.

“The Assam Rifles personnel guarding the Indo-Myanmar border along with other law enforcing agencies on the Indian side have been seizing weapons and drugs and that most offenders are found to be of Myanmar origin,” he said.
