AICC team arrives in Arunachal

Itanagar: The crucial meeting between a three-member AICC team and CLP MLAs at Banquet Hall here to find a solution to the six-month long leadership crisis, on Monday authorised AICC president Sonia Gandhi to nominate next CLP leader.

The AICC team of observers arrived here on Monday morning..

The team is led by Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, AICC observer for Arunachal Pradesh Dr Dhaniram Shandil and former Union Minister and sitting MP B K Handique.

Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, said Mrs Gandhi had been the unanimous choice of all the members to decide upon the next CLP leadership.

Sources informed out of 60-member Assembly, 41 CLP MLAs, including the Speaker, were present at the meeting. Of them 40 except CLP MLA Wanki Lowang did not attend the meeting on health ground but signed in favour of the decision. Assembly Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong did not have to exercise his voting right. The AICC team comprised Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, AICC observer for Arunachal Pradesh Dr Dhaniram Shandil and former Union Minister and sitting MP B K Handique.

However, the leadership problem persisted between Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin and PCC president Nabam Tuki since the death of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu in a chopper crash at Luangthang near Tawang on April 30 last.

Meanwhile, Governor office sources said Jarbom Gamlin tendered his resignation to Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh at the Governor’s house after the latter arrived here from Delhi on Monday afternoon. (Agencies)
