Editor,

Concluding the autumn festival on Sunday the 6th Nov.2011 has drawn a lot of debate for and against it. To me, MTDF is not breaking any Divine or Man-made law, rather they are doing a good job bringing families together. There is nothing wrong doing it on Sunday. People who love going to church will continue to go to church. Those who are not church goers will have something good for the family. What is wrong with that? I am a believer and am active in church and para-church activities. MTDF’s Sunday programme will not hurt my sentiment.

 Delay in arrear payment

 Editor,

The disbursement of 30% revised arrears to the Deficit Upper Primary schools of South Garo Hills is delayed for more than a month in the office of the Sub-Divisional School Education officer, Baghmara by newly joined SDSEO, BK Nag. This negligence of duty by the person concerned is a harassment to the teaching community. The inexperience and incompetence of a particular officer can be reflected in his letter to the Director of School Education & Literacy which says, “I am enclosing herewith application for Earned leave with effect from 7/10/11 to 4/11/2011 for 29 days on private affairs.” He also wrote, “During my leave period Shri…………….SEO off this office may be allowed to act as SDSEO, Baghmara with financial powers”. Many contradictions arise out of his leave. Can a newly joined government employee avail long leave immediately after joining in new establishment? Can he enclose his own application? What private affairs? Can he grant financial powers to his subordinate? The particular Officer does not even care to send the copy of his application to his subordinate officer who was unaware of the status of his leave. This sort of impunity deserves strong disciplinary action from the Department.

Yours etc.,
