AR to raise 26 battalions to secure Indo-Myanmar border

 SHILLONG: The Assam Rifles, the oldest para-military force in the country will raise another 26 battalions for guarding the Indo-Myanmar international border.

Assam Rifles PRO AK Choudhry on Wednesday said with the induction of the proposed 26 battalions, altogether 41 battalions will be guarding the Indo-Myanmar border.

The force is presently awaiting clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles Commanders’ Conference, which is focusing on key policy, conceptual and doctrinal issues in light of prevailing and developing security environment, kicked off here on Tuesday.

The conference will review the security environment, status of operational readiness as also the appraisal of operational situation in the North East.

Other aspects including modernisation, administrative and logistics aspects of the force will also come up for discussions. The conference is being attended by all Commanders and senior officers of the Assam Rifles.
