Illegal disposal of fly ash: One detained

 JOWAI: A truck driver was detained by members of the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) for illegally disposing off fly ash along the national highway in Hynniawmer on Thursday.

“With police help we detained the driver Fandh Lal at Phramer for illegally disposing off fly ash along the national highway,” JSU President Elnathan Pale said.

His vehicle (AS01R-5637) was also seized.

Several NGOs in Jaintia Hills including the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation in the past had lodged complaints with the Deputy Commissioner regarding the disposal of fly-ash along the Shillong Jowai and Jowai-Badarpur road.

Wild life week celebration: With an aim to create awareness on the importance of conserving biodiversity and wildlife among the villagers, the office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Jaintia Hills District, Wild life Division celebrated the wild life week at Raliang village and a concluding function was held on Thursday at the village community hall.
