Agartala: The Left Front government in Tripura has called for a mass movement against the Dr Manmohan Singh-led UPA II Government, as it failed to check the petrol price and inflation.

Reacting to the abrupt hike of petrol price by Rs 1.82, which came into effect from Thursday mid-night, the state Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manik Dey criticised the Congress-led UPA Government and asked that the incidences of price rise indicated that how insensitive this government was to the issue. He pointed out that the Leftists of the country had been fighting against the price rise since long but the Centre did not take any action rather de-regulated the petrol market, which had given right to the petroleum companies to fix the retail market of petrol and the price had increased by Rs 18.80 in 10 subsequent revisions in past one year.

”The Leftists have raised voice against institutional corruption first and finally the common people and civil society followed the movement and now the government is thinking on it and the price rise issue has also reached to such a point that requires mass movement,” Dey opined. (PTI)
