TURA: Several thousand Roman Catholic devotees from as many as six church parishes of Tura diocese came together to partake in special church service and attend the Holy Eucharistic procession at Walbakgre parish on Sunday morning braving inclement weather.
The annual Eucharistic Procession gives an opportunity for the devotees to publicly profess their love, faith and belief in Lord Jesus Christ. The Bishop of Tura, Rt Rev. Andrew R Marak led the devotees in prayer with the holy mass before the start of the procession from St. Luke church parish at Walbakgre, near Holy Cross hospital. In his sermon, Bishop Andrew drew the attention of the devotees gathered towards the teachings of Christ and said that he who believes in the Lord will never die. He also joined the devotees in offering a special prayer for peace and unity in the Garo Hills.
Holding out the holy Sacrament and wine Bishop Andrew recalled the words of Christ at the Last Supper “This is my body and this is my blood. He who partakes in it shall never die.”
The blessed Sacrament was then taken in a specially decorated vehicle in the procession and devotees lit candles and kept miniature statues depicting Christ outside their homes to seek the lord’s blessings.
An overcast sky that triggered a light shower and brought in the cold winter winds failed to dampen the spirit of the devotees who marched along singing hymns and reciting prayers from the Holy Bible.
