Shillong: Eighteen days after Hamida G Momin, a Meghalaya resident, studying in Chennai, went missing in Trishuli River, Nepal during an educational tour mishap, her family members have confirmed that she is still declared ‘missing’.

It may be reminded that two weeks back, Hamida’s family members had requested the Indian Embassy to request the Nepal Government to continue searching for the body of Hamida for at least 15 days, but even after the 14th day of continuous search, Hamida remains untraced.

“Tomorrow (Wednesday) is the 15th day of the search but we have not yet received any fresh news. The status remains the same and so far we have not got any information from anywhere regarding our sister”, Hamida’s elder sister Jullian G Momin told The Shillong Times here on Tuesday.

She also stated that their uncle who is currently in Nepal has confirmed that Hamida remains missing. He is reported to have said that after the 15-day search requested by them is over, the family would decide what to do next.

Hamida is a student of Mar Gregarious Arts and Science College in Chennai and along with 41 of her college mates was on an educational tour to Nepal, when a bridge she was walking across gave way on October 22.

According to information given by the college, Hamida’s colleague, Florence Angel, from Chennai succumbed to injuries due to the fall from the broken bridge. Ten others also sustained injuries including one other student from Meghalaya, Kalbing Stone Sangma. Sangma sustained minor injuries.
