SHILLONG: The Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court has sent the copy of its ruling relating to the anomalies in the appointment of teachers in lower primary schools to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“We have sent the copy of the judgement to the CBI on Friday,” official sources on said on Tuesday. When contacted, CBI sources, however, said that they were yet to receive the court ruling.
It may be recalled the court in its ruling on October 21 last had directed the CBI to inquire into the petitioners’ allegations and submit the inquiry report within three months from the date of receipt of the judgment.
Justice T Vaiphei was adjudicating on a case of nine writ petitions filed by aggrieved applicants from various pockets of the State after information obtained through the RTI Act, 2005 brought to light various discrepancies and manipulation in the appointment of assistant teachers in 2009-2010.
While justifying the decision to entertain the writ petitions, the judge said, “In my opinion, once a strong prima facie case of massive irregularities/illegalities and mischief is made out by the petitioners, as is the case here, I have no alternative but to entertain the writ petition.”
The Government had decided to contest the court ruling. “The Government has followed all the necessary procedures during appointment of the assistant teachers,” Education Minister Prof RC Laloo had said.
