Six fishermen held, trawler seized
KENDRAPARA (ODISHA): Six fishermen were arrested on Tuesday by the Bhitarkanika forets officials on charges of illegally catching fish by a mechanised vessel inside the prohibited area under the sanctuary. The forest personnel have also seized the mechanized fishing vessel, fish catch and fishing nets from their possession, DFO of Rajnagar Mangrove and Wildlife division Manoj Kumar Mohapatra said. According to DFO the arrested fishermen would be produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class at Pattamundai on Wednesday. The Bhitarkanika officials had also intercepted another fishing trawler inside the prohibited zone last Saturday and arrested seven fishermen of Balesore district. With today’s arrest of six fishermen,the forest officials have so far booked 13 fishermen ever since the government had imposed ban on fishing around 20 km off the shore from November 1 to May 31 to protect the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles. Lakhs of sea turtles arrive on the Gahirmatha beach during the winter every year for mass nesting. (UNI)
Policemen injured in Maoist attack
LATEHAR (JHARKHAND): As many as three policemen where injured when about 50 moaists attacked their camp in Cone village under Sadar police station area on Tuesday night in this naxal dominated district. Police on Tuesday said the injured policemen have been rushed to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences for further treatment. The building has also been damaged due to the attack, sources added. A search operation was launched in the area leading to the discovery of 9 grenades, 6 petrol bombs, 16 cylinders and large amount of cartridges have been recovered, sources said. (UNI)

VIDISHA (MP): The Madhya Pradesh Wrestling Federation’s President shot himself at his Paliwal Nagar residence with a crude gun after bolting the bathroom door from within, on Tuesday morning. ”A note left by Prakash Paliwal (52) revealed that a family dispute — for which he claimed responsibility — was the reason,” said Superintendent of Police BP Chandravanshi. Paliwal was heading the MPWF for the past few years. (UNI)
6 die in road accident in Shamli
LUCKNOW: Six people were killed when their vehicle collided with a truck under Shamli police station in the newly created Prabudhnagar district on Monday. Police sources here said the deceased have been identified as driver Indrapal, Mukesh(25), Renu(40), Ravi(19), Basanti Ram(40) and one unidentified. Two children were also injured in the accident. Drug trafficker arrested with heroin
NEW DELHI: Crime branch has arrested a drug peddler with heroin worth over Rs two crore from north Delhi. Ram Gopal (32), a native of Madhya Pradesh, was apprehended on Monday with heroin worth Rs 2.20 crore in international market, a police official said on Tuesday. After an intensive interrogation, the accused disclosed that he is involved in drug trafficking for the last 10-12 years and was never apprehended earlier. He was booked under appropriate sections of the NDPS Act. (UNI)
Five killed, 24 injured
KAHALGAON (BIHAR): Five persons were killed and 24 injured, 10 of them seriously, when a bus fell into a roadside ditch near Katoria village in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on Tuesday, police said. The bus was on its way to Belbadda in Jharkhand from Bhagalpur when the driver lost control over it, the police said. Three persons died on the spot. The injured were admitted to a government hospital at Kahalgaon where the condition of 10 was stated to be serious, the police said. (PTI)
Trade union workers arrested
CHENNAI (TN): A large number of central trade union activists were on Tuesday taken into custody across Tamil Nadu for holding protest against price rise and the new pension scheme. The protesters, including prominent trade union leaders like A Sounderrajan and T K Rangarajan (CPI-M), A M Gopu (CPI) and S Kuppusamy (DMK), were taken into custody, police said. The protesting workers demanded that the Centre should act on issues like spiralling prices, employment guarantee, minimum wage fixation and the New Pension Scheme. A Puducherry report said around 1,000 workers were held in the Union territory when they participated in a picketing. The protest was in response to the “Jail Bharo” call given by the central trade unions. (PTI)
WPWA president commits suicide
VIDISHA: President of Madhya Pradesh Wrestling Association, Prakash Paliwal on Tuesday allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Sironj town near here, police said. Paliwal (52) died immediately after he shot himself with a country-made pistol at his residence, ASP Manish Khatri told reporters. According to police, the victim left a suicide-note which said that he was taking the extreme step following a dispute with his family over some issue. The note also mentioned that he felt he himself was responsible for the differences in the family. Police have registered a case in this regard and further probe is on. (PTI)
