Guwahati: The Assam Government arranged for preserving the foot and hand imprints of legendary music composer and singer Dr Bhupen Hazarika, who was cremated here on Wednesday.

The foot and hand imprints of the departed balladeer were taken by state forensic experts after the body was taken out of the air-conditioned, glass coffin at Judges’ Field before being brought to the funeral spot at Jalukbari area of Guwahati.

State Forensic Department Director RN Khound led the team of experts who took the imprints at about 0530 hrs this morning.

”The government has arranged for the preservation of the foot and hand imprints of Dr Hazarika. We will hand it over to the authorities after due processing,” he said.

The imprints were taken on specially-treated mud and will be recreated on plaster of paris by experts.

Foot imprints were also taken on two white pieces of cloth just before the body was set on the funeral pyre.

Padma Bhusan and Dada Saheb Phalke awardee Dr Hazarika had died of multiple organ failure at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai on Saturday (November 5). He was 85.

The body was flown to Guwahati on Monday and lakhs of fans had paid tribute to his mortal remains at Judges’ Field in the city in the last two days.

I will always love him: Lajmi

Shedding tears by his funeral pyre, filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, a long-time companion of legendary music composer and singer Dr Bhupen Hazarika, said the departed balladeer’s soul would forever live with her.

”I will love him always,” Lajmi said, as the funeral pyre of Dr Hazarika was lit up at a special spot near the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati on Wednesday.

A die-hard fan of Dr Hazarika’s genius since her teenage days, Lajmi said he would never leave her in mind and soul. (Agencies)
