SHILLONG: The FKJGP Jaintia Hills has given the State Government one-week deadline for implementation of the much-awaited project for giving a face-lift to the Iawmusiang Market in Jowai.
“If the State Government fails to take any initiative for implementation of the project we would resort to agitational programmes to ensure that the project finally sees the light of the day,” FKJGP Jaintia Hills vice-president Danny Shadap told reporters on Wednesday.
Shadap said, “We are surprised that the project has not yet taken off despite an amount of Rs18.09 crore being sanctioned by the Union Ministry of DoNER for the project. The Union Ministry has already released an amount of Rs 6.33 crore to the JHADC to initiate the project.
“Even though the Council has already received the fund it is difficult to understand the delay in initiating the project,” he said, adding, “If fund is an issue then people of Jaintia Hills are willing to contribute money for the construction of the market.”
While informing that the Iaw Musiang was dismantled since 2004, he said that the road has become very congested due to the delay in constructing the market.
The FKJGP had, on October 31, observed a black flag day in protest against the delay in construction of the market.
